I've never really been considered a good cook by my family, however that may soon be a thing of the past. Yesterday I decided it could be fun to try making pastries, and my family actually liked them :oAND there were no comments about it being deadly poison ^o^'
So what exactly did I make you might be wondering? Well currently I'm obsessed with putting maplesyrup on EVERYTHING (well other than my dinner and breakfast cereal...that wouldn't be good at all...) So I made some Apple/Maple/Pecan Danish pastries!! I can't really give you a recipe because I didn't use one, and used premade puff pastry >_> but I can at least give you a few tips ^^;
(mostly really basic but you have to start somewhere)
- With the apple don't blend it too finely or the moisture sends the pastry soggy and you wind up with a mess. It's also so much yummier when you have chunks of apple to bite into!
- Use grease proof paper AND non stick spray...normally I'd just use paper but these like to stick. A lot.
- Keep the puff pastry in the freezer and only take out a few sheets at a time or it softens too much and it's like working with bubblegum. Not good.
- Also don't force the pastry to bend whilst it's still partially frozen, or it will snap.
- Separate an egg and use the whites as 'glue' where as you use the yolk to glaze. Sprinkle sugar for a crunchy finish.
- More importantly experiment and have fun!
